Dr. Stephen Hwang has a practice solely dedicated to advanced cataract surgery. He performs over 1,000 cataract surgeries a year and has become one of the valley’s leading cataract surgeons using the most advanced microsurgical techniques, allowing many patients to become glasses-free with the multifocal (ReSTOR, ReZOOM), toric astigmatic correction and monofocal intraocular implants.
Dr. Hwang received his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University, went on to intern at Pennsylvania Hospital and did his residency in ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. Throughout medical school and residency, he maintained a professional Tenor singing position with the Mendelssohn Club and the Philadelphia Orchestra for eight years.
Dr. Hwang is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons. He is an attending surgeon and faculty at the Maricopa County Hospital Ophthalmology Department.
In addition to his love of medicine, Dr. Hwang is committed to supporting the Arizona Humane Society and the ASPCA in the mission to improve the lives of injured and neglected animals. He loves living in Phoenix and hiking the local trails with his family and four rescue dogs.
