Dr. Sarah Maki is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Maki provides comprehensive glaucoma and complex cataract care. She performs minimally invasive glaucoma surgeries, utilizes glaucoma surgical laser techniques, and performs more traditional glaucoma surgical procedures as well. Originally from Michigan, Dr. Maki graduated summa cum laude from Michigan State University in East Lansing. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiology, with Specializations in Health Promotion and Connected Learning. She then received her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago, Stritch School of Medicine with honors in Bioethics and Professionalism. She obtained her ophthalmology residency training at the University of Minnesota, after which she completed a glaucoma fellowship at Minnesota Eye Consultants. Dr. Maki’s professional affiliations include the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, the American Glaucoma Society, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Dr. Maki received several awards and scholarships throughout the course of her education, including the Ophthalmic Knowledge Assessment Program Award of Highest Achievement and the Richard T. Olson Best Teaching Award. She is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and has authored multiple research publications. She has also been involved in volunteer initiatives working with displaced refugees and traveling abroad for medical outreach; performing eye surgery for impoverished underserved populations.
In her spare time, Dr. Maki enjoys baking, cooking, and enjoying the outdoors with her husband and dog. She also loves to travel and speaks fluent Arabic.
