AES welcomes Dr. Cohen to its practice! Dr. Alex Cohen is a board-certified, fellowship-trained cornea specialist who has been in practice since 2011. He obtained his M.D. and Ph.D. from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York City and then attended residency and fellowship at the top ranked University of Iowa. Following his training, Dr. Cohen was on the faculty at the Dean McGee Eye Institute in Oklahoma City, serving as the cornea fellowship director and receiving the Stanley Muenzler, M.D. Endowed Professor of Corneal Disease.
After his time in academic medicine, Dr. Cohen moved back to Iowa where he was a partner in a very busy private practice, performing over 10,000 cataract, cornea, and glaucoma surgeries. He recently moved back to his home state of Arizona, joining Arizona Eye Specialists in 2025.
Dr. Cohen continues to serve as an oral board examiner and helps develop the oral and written examinations for certifying the next generation of ophthalmologists. Additionally, since 2015, he has traveled to the African nation of Eswatini, performing high volume medical and surgical eye care.
